Couples Counseling

When you are struggling in your relationship, you may wonder what you can do to make things better. You started with such high hopes! However, now you wonder where it went wrong and whether there is hope for making things better. Fortunately, there is hope. If you are having trouble in your relationship, couples counseling can help you:

  • Restore trust
  • Break through communication problems
  • Resolve repetitive arguments
  • Restore a sense of closeness and connection
  • Remember why you got married in the first place

“Sarah is a very kind and thoughtful. Her expertise in couples counseling has drawn me and my husband closer to each other. She listens patiently and addresses the issues between us and help us solve them or find a better way to communicate. I would recommend her to anybody who wants couples counseling.”

Couples counseling provides safety

Our closest relationships are our greatest teachers. As we work to heal from problems in our relationships, we have an opportunity to grow in ways far beyond what we can achieve alone. It can be helpful to think of our conflict or distance as signs that we simply have work to do. This work can seem scary. We may feel vulnerable. Yet we have everything to gain – and so much to lose.

My approach to couples therapy is based on a belief that we are all doing the best we can. This means that everyone is trying to get their needs met and sometimes this comes at the cost of harmony. We tend to act out in unconscious ways until we learn what is driving us.

With attention, we can learn to identify our patterns, triggers, and wounds. With practice, we can build skills to communicate more effectively and love more fully. As we do this work, we can become more conscious in our relationships, and live with more peace and happiness.

Conflict is normal. You can learn how to manage it.

In our couples counseling, nobody is right, and nobody is wrong; there are just two people who are doing the best they can. The people we are closest to have the ability to push our buttons more than anyone else can. Conflicts can become entrenched. Sometimes it feels like things are out of control.

Take heart. Every couple has conflict. At times, we just need help in resolving those conflicts. That is where couples counseling comes in. Our therapy process provides a safe learning environment where you can resolve conflict, practice effective communication techniques, and heal issues from the past.
